The 8th School International Chess Event 2021/22 launched

with the participation of 4 schools from … Greece, Mexico and Poland

Short history:

Initial idea to organize friendly match between schools was raised by teachers Nikos Rokopanos (GRE) and Jan Wiech (POL) in 2014, which has been continued in the following years in a larger cast and in the form of a team event.

8th School International Chess Event 2021/22

The Polish Correspondence Chess Commission of the Polish Chess Federation is organizing this tournament.

The event regulations were placed at the organizer website here. They were sent to all national delegates and placed also at the ICCF website.

The main purpose is to integrate school children within common passion chess.

This is the 8th School International Chess Event 2021/22 played on the ICCF server from 2021-10-20 to 2022-05-31 at 4 boards (teacher+3 students under 19).

The event is unrated. Time control – an incremental rate of play (initial time: 20 days per game plus increment: 1 move in 3 days with duplication after 20 days; 10 days leave per calendar year, no special leave). Unfinished games will be adjudicated.

This time participants are teams from 4 following schools:

Karlovassi High School, Samos, is a junior high school at the town of Karlovassi, located in the northwest of the island of Pythagoras. Karlovassi is the second largest city on the island of Samos.

The team are all 13-17 years old. Greek team is directed by Nikos Rokopanos, Maths teacher in High School of Karlovassi.

2.Liceum Ogólnokształcące nr 1, Brodnica (Poland)

The Philomats of Michałowska’s Land High School in Brodnica was founded in 1873. It is one of the oldest schools in Poland. It has a rich history and its contribution to the development of Polishness in the Prussian territories. The school now boasts many scientific and sporting achievements. The chess section has existed for 10 years and has reached the medal positions in team and individual competitions in the Brodnica district.

The team are all 18 years old. Polish team from Brodnica is led by Marcin Kołodziejski, IT/Maths teacher and chess instructor.

Primary School No. 1 in Tomaszów Lubelski was founded in 1999 after school system reform as Junior High School No. 1 and in 2017, after next school system reform, was transformed to primary school. Headmaster is Witold Pitura. More can be found at the school page.

The school is running sport club LUKS „Tomasovia” Tomaszów Lubelski, including chess section. Member of chess section are mostly school students.

The team are all 11-14 years old. Polish team is led by Ryszard Probola, IT and chess teacher.

4.Mexico school combined, Minatitlan, Veracruz (Mexico)

The Mexican school team is a combined team made up of students from two schools in the Veracruz region: Secundaria Francisco Perez and Universidad Veracruzana. The team are all 14-18 years old.

Mexican team is directed by Jerónimo Hernández Martínez, 40, an engineer by profession. He is Vice President of the Mexican Association of Correspondence Chess, Vice President of the Association of Veracruzanos Chess Players AC and Vice President of the Minatitlan Chess Club; FIDE Arbiter since 2016.
