Problems

Except of few cases games run smoothly.

There is less and less problems with proper time management. How to avoid them see reminders below.

Withdrawal – silent:

  • Kartal, Koray (TUR) from section 38
  • Saviozzi, Luca (ITA) from section 16

Potential silent withdrawal:

  • Cankaya, Aybar (TUR) from section 36

Reminders

It is fair and good practice to finish game in good time.

Sometimes players hesitate to come to an agreement (to agree upon a draw or to resign).  Silent resignation in lost position is not fair.

I understand very well players who have decisive advantage or game comes to 6-piece (or less) ending, but there is no legal background for claim in such situation (except of cases described by rules). It can be accepted only after end date of an event. In case of World Cup 18 preliminaries end date is 2013-06-01.

Be aware that Nalimov Endgame Tablebases (EGTB) for 6 pieces (or less) are accessible online for everybody.

Please be reminded that normally it is up to a player to exploit his time as he wishes and you cannot say anything wrong to your partner, even if he continues his game in obviously drawish/lost position or until mate.

Please see other basic reminders at separate subpage.

Responses to live transmission of MT-Bielecki/Top

After enabling live transmission in MT-Bielecki/Top I received great support fom chess enthusiasts, including World Champions 🙂

Please find below representative message with personal reference received from 20th World Champion (2004-2011), Pertti Lehikoinen (FIN).

=========

Dear Mariusz,

I am glad of seeing all games live in the Witold Bielecki Memorial tournament. That is great!

In general I do believe in attracting public attention to correspondence chess and this is the best way in doing it. I have never understood a point of secret games. It is only a relic of postal era. I, if anyone, know this also in praxis, because I had 3 (“secret”) winning games left in the end of my World Champion Final. It was not funny to give out the results of my last 3 games within less than 3½ months, because it totally turned round the tournament table. In my opinion CC should be nearer OTB-chess than poker. In OTB-chess we can walk around in the tournament hall and look at other games. This is a way, it should be also in CC, at least in the top level tournaments.

I’ll follow with pleasure and great interest the games of Witold Bielecki Memorial. Thank you Mariusz for making it possible me!
